Peter Leitch plays with astonishing energy and creativity on this disc. The trio swings hard on most tunes here, settling down for a couple of beautiful ballads that are calming, yet still full of the creative tension that keeps ballads from being sleepy.Bass player Neil Swainson establishes himself as truly one of the greats of all time. I'm not kidding. Swainson is in there with Lafaro and Peacock, showing the same ability to make the bass ideas as relevant as the "lead" player, not by taking typical solos, but by a demonstration of harmonic and rhythmic creativity throughout that is truly awesome.Leitch's more recent albums (this one was recorded back in '84) show that after playing in New York for twenty years he has become one of the most skillful and refined guitarists out there. This album is my favorite of his, however, because of the amazing interaction of the players. Leitch's guitar seems to have a slight intonation problem, but its worth getting over. This album rewards repeated listening. Don't miss this one!
